To keep the Senior Bank personnel informed of developments in Corporate Governance after the financial crisis, a workshop will be conducted by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) together with the Sri Lanka Banks' Association on the "Latest Developments in Corporate Governance after the Financial Crisis". It is to be held on 16th December, 2010 at the Centre for Banking Studies, Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Rajagiriya from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. The subject matter to be covered is as follows.

  • Module I: The Global Financial Crisis and Its Implications on Risk Management
  • Module II: New Approaches to Corporate Governance as Found in the Latest Amendments in Corporate Governance Codes
  • Module III: Risk Management and Risk Governance

The presentation will be done by two highly experienced Corporate Governance Specialists from the IFC. There profiles are as follows.

  1. Martin Steindl

    Martin Steindl is IFC's Corporate Governance Specialist for the South Asia region. As such, he identifies and mitigates governance risks in IFC’s investments by providing direct advice to future investee companies. He also supports local institutes of directors or corporate governance in providing support to banks and companies on good corporate governance practices.In the past five years, Martin has supported the foundation of three institutes of directors and the crafting of 17 corporate governance codes in the Middle East and Pakistan.

    Martin, an Austrian national, who received his Ph.D. on a corporate governance topic from the Georgia State University and the University of Vienna, practiced as an attorney at law for seven years in Vienna. Martin.

    Martin speaks German, English, and French fluently and is married with no children.

  2. J. Chris Razook

    J. Chris Razook is the Corporate Governance Program Manager for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) markets for the International Finance Corporation (IFC, part of the World Bank Group). Mr. Razook has over 15 years of experience providing business advisory services to banks, financial institutions, and other organizations around the world in the areas of corporate governance, risk management, internal controls, strategic planning, and organizational improvement.

    Mr. Razook has conducted corporate governance assessments for numerous banks and companies and has developed and delivered extensive client training for board directors. Mr. Razook has presented at various conferences and workshops across the region aimed at raising the awareness of Corporate Governance for companies, banks, investors, and journalists. Mr. Razook has also provided assistance to central banks and other regulatory authorities in drafting Corporate Governance codes and listing rules. Mr. Razook's educational background is in Engineering, International Finance, and Corporate Law.
